Research committee
Through the establishment of a formal Research Committee, the Association has been able to create a mechanism for the formulation of an overview of the important issues for research within Africanist Humanities and Social Sciences, the development of future initiatives, and work on a developing a key research theme of African expertise and cultural production.
The committee is chaired by Professor William Beinart, the current deputy president of ASAUK (2006-08) and incoming President (2008-10), thus providing continuity. The Research Committee currently meets on the same date as Council, is open to all Council members (as well as heads of African Studies centres and Journal editors).
