Further research

Funding provided by the British Academy as part of the African Studies Association UK recognition as a learned society has allowed the association to employ a research administrator. The focus of initial research is on the strengthening of research links between Africanist academics in the UK and their colleagues in Africa HE, in coordination with UK funding and facilitative agencies. Research is being carried out on.

  1. Scholarly journal publishing in Africa
  2. African scholars publishing in Africanist journals published in the UK
  3. Scholarly book publishing in Africa

1. Questionnaire on Scholarly Journals

The African Studies Association UK is committed to supporting and facilitating academic publishing in Africa, and it is currently reviewing the recent history of academic journal publishing in Africa. ASAUK's research includes work on online journals published in Africa.

As more journals become available online and free at the point of access to scholars in the global North, African journals face a challenge in maintaining subscriptions and income. The questionnaire below will provide information for a report being prepared by the ASAUK on the challenges faced by scholarly journals published in Africa.

Please download the questionnaire, open, complete, save under you journal's name and email to research(at)asauk.net.

2. Questionnaire on publishing in journals by African scholars

The African Studies Association UK (ASAUK) is currently conducting research into the difficulties experienced by African scholars in submitting articles for publication in international journals.

The UK is one of the leading centres for academic journals concerned with Africa. Initial findings from ASAUK's research indicate that there is a strong desire for a greater number of submissions from African scholars in Africanist journals both in Europe and the United States. There are a number of major issues faced by African academics including access to up-to-date scholarly work in African academic institutions and familiarity with the submission requirements for international journals

The findings of the ASAUK research on African scholars publishing in international journals will be published in a report in 2009.

Please download the questionnaire, open, complete, save under you journal's name and email to research(at)asauk.net.
